Bioregional is a sustainability consulting company headquartered in London. Originally founded as a charity, the company helps developers, businesses, and communities to live sustainable lives.
Tom Schuurman, Director of Finances and Resources, wanted to achieve greater efficiency in the company’s project delivery. They had been using multiple different spreadsheets to run their operations; resource allocation was being run in one spreadsheet, while finances were being run in another, etc.
“Our resourcing spreadsheet kept falling over,” said Tom. “Eventually, it would have just broken because it was so massive.”
Tom wanted to bring all of these spreadsheets under one roof for a single source of truth—and to avoid contradictory reports from different platforms.

In 2024, Bioregional decided to implement CMap’s PSA solution for Consulting Firms, bringing their resourcing, project financials, reporting, and more into one system. Tom found the onboarding process to be “really smooth”:
“We had a really supportive team throughout the onboarding process, which was a massive plus,” he said. “There’s also a built-in academy that teaches you how to use the platform, which has been brilliant.”
For Tom, one of the highlights of CMap was visibility over the individual project history attached to each user. This showed the areas where each consultant was building experience, which was “massively beneficial” for resourcing future projects.
One of the most significant benefits of CMap for Bioregional was the amount of time saved; the company has now been able to move to a nine-day fortnight.
“There used to be far too much time spent on admin, as project managers had to pull so much data from so many different places for their reports,” Tom explained. “Now, our month end reporting has been reduced from 5 days to just 3.”
Being able to produce reports two days earlier has had a huge “knock on effect” for the company, with the senior leadership being able to discuss much more timely, relevant figures.
The team have also reduced their time spent on internal meetings by 25% since adopting CMap—which means they have more time to spend on delivering work.
This has directly translated to a 13% increase in income per FTE.
CMap has also made a huge difference to the company in terms of accounting: “Our cashflow has increased by 70% since we adopted CMap.” This is thanks to CMap’s invoicing schedules on each project, allowing the company to better manage when cash is coming in.
Bioregional has also seen a 50% increase in their net margin since adopting CMap, as well as a 1% increase in utilization—which is equivalent to a 20% boost in operating profit.
